SUMMARY:Taking Our Faith to the Streets: Just Transition from Fossil Fuels to Climate Justice
DESCRIPTION:In the spirit of compassion and action\, people of faith are called to answer the Earth’s cry for care in this climate emergency.  On Monday\, October 26 from noon to 12:45 pm the Interfaith Coalition for Earth Justice and its members across Southern California will hold a Vigil to call on Wells Fargo Bank to end their investment in fossil fuel projects and support a just transition to 100% renewables.  \n\n\n\nImmediately end their investment in fossil fuel projectsImmediately invest in 100% renewables and a fair phase-out of current fossil fuel productionImmediately act to invest in companies that provide a just transition for impacted workers and climate-vulnerable communities\n\n\n\nThis action is part of GreenFaith’s Faiths 4 Climate Justice campaign and is projected to be the first in a series of actions at Wells Fargo. We act in solidarity with GreenFaith’s global actions\, October 4 to November 6\, leading up to COP 27\, the UN Climate Conference. \n\n\n\nTime is running out for any significant impact on global climate disruption. Our faith demands that we ask: if not now\, when? If not us\, who? \n\n\n\nWe will gather at Wells Fargo Plaza 401 B St.\, San Diego.  A press conference will be held at 11:30 before the Vigil at 12 noon. For more information\, contact Diane Lopez Hughes at dianelopezhughes@me.com \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nREGISTER HERE!

SUMMARY:Investing in Our Values: An Advancing Earth Justice Series Virtual Event
DESCRIPTION:On Sunday\, May 21 from 2:00 to 3:30 PM\, the Interfaith Coalition for Earth Justice (ICEJ) is proud to present this workshop with Michael Richardson\, co-founder of Rivers & Mountains GreenFaith and lifelong activist.  Michael will address how we can move finances from funding fossil fuel extraction\, production and distribution… and instead direct bank deposits\, insurance premiums\, and investment portfolios to fund local businesses and farms\, affordable housing\, and development of renewable clean energy.  His activism is driven by the moral imperative to stop funding climate chaos–the same moral imperative that led ICEJ to pressure Chase\, Citibank and Wells Fargo to cease loans to the fossil fuel industry.  We must keep the pressure on–join us for this workshop to see how to do so most effectively! \n\n\n\nThis FREE event is presented by the Interfaith Coalition for Earth Justice.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhat: Investing in Our Values: An Advancing Earth Justice Series Virtual Event \n\n\n\nWhen: Sunday\, May 21\,  2 – 3:30 PM \n\n\n\nWhere: Zoom – Register Online for the Link \n\n\n\nFor more information\, contact info@icejsd.org \n\n\n\n\nREGISTER HERE

SUMMARY:Ashes to Action - North County
DESCRIPTION:Ashes to Action: Honoring Our Climate Dead\, Protesting Fossil Fuel Banks \n\n\n\nClimate change is making extreme weather events like this winter’s floods and rainstorms in SoCal the new normal and there are often fatalities.  In the past fifty years approximately two million people have died from such events.  Climate change is primarily driven by the fossil fuel industry which in turn is funded by our financial sector.  From 2016-2022 four big US banks–Bank of America\, Chase\, Citibank\, and Wells Fargo–have poured over one trillion dollars into the fossil fuel industry.  THIS MUST STOP!! \n\n\n\nTo protest this blood money and honor those who have died (most of whom are from developing nations)\, a coalition of environmental groups is holding a series of memorial services/protests in different locations around San Diego.  On Friday\, April 5  1:00-2:30 PM the event will be in Solana Beach starting at Citibank\, 740 Lomas Santa Fe Dr and processing to Bank of America\, 943 Lomas Santa Fe Dr..  We will finish up at a nearby Mission Federal Credit Union to commend them for refusing to invest in fossil fuels.  Please register here for this crucial witness and if you can\, wear black on the day-of. This event is sponsored by the Interfaith Coalition for Earth Justice and partners including Third Act So Cal\, GreenFaith\, SanDiego350\, CleanEarth4Kids\, and the North County Equity and Justice Coalition.  Our action is part of this Spring’s Faiths for Climate Justice\, GreenFaith’s global call to people of faith to take action on fossil fuel divestment and investment in a sustainable future. SUMMARY:The Kumeyaay Vision of Earth Justice: An Interview with Bobby Wallace and Sarahmarie Llyemewaa Redfern of the Barona Band of Mission Indians
DESCRIPTION:After years of ignoring indigenous peoples\, the U.S. environmental movement has embraced them as partners in protecting the integrity of ecosystems and as teachers in modeling a truly sustainable lifestyle. What are some of the traditions of earth care that the Kumeyaay lived out for thousands of years here in San Diego County and how did those practices grow out of their religion?   \n\n\n\nFor this FREE event sponsored by the Interfaith Coalition for Earth Justice\, former ICEJ Chairperson\, Rev. Dr. Beth Johnson\, will interview several members of the Kumeyaay nation including eco-justice activists Bobby Wallace and Sarahmarie Llyemewaa Redfern. Mr. Wallace and Ms. Redfern will also reflect on their life journeys as activists\, direct us toward local eco-justice issues\, and address what true justice from the U.S. might look like for the Indigenous.  \n\n\n\nJoin us on Thurs. June 27 at 7 PM at the Southeastern Live Well Center\, 5101 Market St. San Diego.  This event\, part of ICEJ’s Advancing Earth Justice series\, will be recorded for later viewing.   \n\n\n\nContact Phil Petrie at phil@icejsd.org or (619) 776-1013 for more information and please register online.

SUMMARY:February Hands in Soil: Surfrider Beach Clean-up
DESCRIPTION:Last fall ICEJ started an initiative we’re calling Hands in the Soil that pairs volunteers with monthly opportunities at various local not-for-profits providing an opportunity to get a little dirty to make our community cleaner (and more earth friendly). Saturday\, February 15 from 9-11 AM we join Surfrider for a beach clean-up at two locations: Moonlight Beach\, Encinitas and Imperial Beach – so take your pick. Someone from Surfrider will talk briefly about what to pick up\, supply you with gloves\, bags\, and pickers\, and set you free to clean the beach. Just look for the table with the big Surfrider sign on the beach and someone from ICEJ (we’ll have signs) will be there to meet you also. If you can’t stay for the whole time\, that’s never a problem either. \n\n\n\nFor more information from Surfrider go here. SUMMARY:STOP Trump's Attacks on the EPA and our Climate
DESCRIPTION:Photo courtesy of SanDiego350 \n\n\n\nWe cannot stand by while the Trump administration denies climate change in the face of the heartbreaking fires in LA\, expands fossil fuel drilling\, illegally cuts funds for renewable energy and environmental justice\, places fossil fuel executives in charge of our environment\, and paints a target on the backs of the EPA workers who are working for our health and our environment every day. \n\n\n\nStarting at the Federal Courthouse\, we’ll march to the Federal Building in downtown San Diego. We’ll rally in support of San Diego’s EPA workers who are under attack\, call out Trump’s devastating actions for our climate and our future\, and demand that San Diego and California step up climate action – including passing the state bill to make California’s largest fossil fuel polluters pay to mitigate\, remedy\, and prevent climate change costs and harms.  \n\n\n\nThis event will feature a march\, great speakers\, colorful signs and banners\, and actions to take at the event.  \n\n\n\nJoin us as we fight for our future\, for EPA workers\, and for the rule of law! \n\n\n\nSpeakers include: Prof. Jeff Severinghaus\, Scripps Institute of Oceanography climate scientist; David Fege\, retired EPA staff who opened the San Diego EPA office in 1994; Jack Shu\, former La Mesa Councilmember; Phil Petrie\, Tyler Andre\, Shayne Petkiewicz and Adeline Deig with SanDiego350; Ali Mariko Dressel\, San Diego Green New Deal Alliance; and\, Yusef Miller\, ICEJ. \n\n\n\nWe’ll have plenty of signs\, and of course your own signs are very welcome! \n\n\n\nCo-sponsored by SanDiego350
