SUMMARY:Investing in Our Values: An Advancing Earth Justice Series Virtual Event
DESCRIPTION:On Sunday\, May 21 from 2:00 to 3:30 PM\, the Interfaith Coalition for Earth Justice (ICEJ) is proud to present this workshop with Michael Richardson\, co-founder of Rivers & Mountains GreenFaith and lifelong activist.  Michael will address how we can move finances from funding fossil fuel extraction\, production and distribution… and instead direct bank deposits\, insurance premiums\, and investment portfolios to fund local businesses and farms\, affordable housing\, and development of renewable clean energy.  His activism is driven by the moral imperative to stop funding climate chaos–the same moral imperative that led ICEJ to pressure Chase\, Citibank and Wells Fargo to cease loans to the fossil fuel industry.  We must keep the pressure on–join us for this workshop to see how to do so most effectively! \n\n\n\nThis FREE event is presented by the Interfaith Coalition for Earth Justice.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhat: Investing in Our Values: An Advancing Earth Justice Series Virtual Event \n\n\n\nWhen: Sunday\, May 21\,  2 – 3:30 PM \n\n\n\nWhere: Zoom – Register Online for the Link \n\n\n\nFor more information\, contact info@icejsd.org \n\n\n\n\nREGISTER HERE

SUMMARY:Taking Our Faith to the Streets: Just Transition from Fossil Fuels to Climate Justice
DESCRIPTION:In the spirit of compassion and action\, people of faith are called to answer the Earth’s cry for care in this climate emergency.  On Monday\, October 26 from noon to 12:45 pm the Interfaith Coalition for Earth Justice and its members across Southern California will hold a Vigil to call on Wells Fargo Bank to end their investment in fossil fuel projects and support a just transition to 100% renewables.  \n\n\n\nImmediately end their investment in fossil fuel projectsImmediately invest in 100% renewables and a fair phase-out of current fossil fuel productionImmediately act to invest in companies that provide a just transition for impacted workers and climate-vulnerable communities\n\n\n\nThis action is part of GreenFaith’s Faiths 4 Climate Justice campaign and is projected to be the first in a series of actions at Wells Fargo. We act in solidarity with GreenFaith’s global actions\, October 4 to November 6\, leading up to COP 27\, the UN Climate Conference. \n\n\n\nTime is running out for any significant impact on global climate disruption. Our faith demands that we ask: if not now\, when? If not us\, who? \n\n\n\nWe will gather at Wells Fargo Plaza 401 B St.\, San Diego.  A press conference will be held at 11:30 before the Vigil at 12 noon. SUMMARY:LISTENING TO CREATION - AN INTERFAITH SERVICE
DESCRIPTION:Listening to Creation–Interfaith Service at La Jolla Shores \n\n\n\nThis summer we have witnessed stifling heat in Europe\, flooding in South Korea and India\, and massive wildfires and drought in California.  Climate change is here and now–and getting worse.  As persons of faith we are called to own the problem and move to act.  On Wednesday\, September 21 we will hold Listening to Creation: The Earth Speaks–The Time is Now\, an interfaith service moving from Lamentation to Stewardship to Joy.  All are welcome when we gather at 5:00 pm at La Jolla Shores Park\, 8300 Camino del Oro for a BYO meal (please BYO beach chairs too).  The service will begin at 6:00 pm and conclude by 6:45.  All of our faith traditions call us to attentiveness and deep listening. Out of this attention\, we act!!  This event is sponsored by a group of local faith communities and the Interfaith Coalition for Earth Justice.  For more information contact the Rev. Brian Petersen at pastor@holycrosscarlsbad.org.

SUMMARY:From Paris to Glasgow: The Climate Story
DESCRIPTION:Many of us feel let down by the climate policy results coming out of the UN’s Conference of Parties (COP) 26 meetings but some progress was made.  In order to understand what further progress we might expect in the coming years and what we will need to do to make that happen\, a look at developments from Paris (2015) to Glasgow (2021) is in order.  Rev. Peggy Clarke was at both conferences as a Unitarian Universalist delegate and she will share her observations and insights with us in the Interfaith Coalition for Earth Justice’s second Advancing Earth Justice talk on Wed. Feb. 16 from 5-6 PM via Zoom.  Rev. Clarke is the Senior Minister at the Community Church of New York in NYC and a longtime advocate for climate\, food\, and border justice.  For more information email Phil Petrie at petriep2@gmail.com.  Please register for this FREE event here.

SUMMARY:November ICEJ Meeting
DESCRIPTION:We would like to invite you to the next ICEJ meeting which will be held on Tues.\, Nov. 9 3:00-4:30 PM via Zoom. Having had a successful Faiths 4 Climate Justice Witness at places of worship and Rally at the County Administration Building just two weeks ago (see the video in this newsletter)\, we are ready to examine where we will put our energies in the year ahead. We look to plan the next two events in both our Advancing Earth Justice speaker series and Cultivating Resilience workshops. And following up on our Rally\, what are our next steps in eco-justice activism? We need your help to make all this happen–won’t you join us? \n  \nContact us if you’re interested in joining!

SUMMARY:Faiths 4 Climate Justice Rally and Resources
DESCRIPTION:Destroying the planet is against our religion!  Two weeks before the UN’s global climate negotiations in Glasgow\, faith communities around the world will rise up to urge our political and financial leaders to take action.  Using an international climate activist platform created by GreenFaith\, the Interfaith Coalition for Earth Justice (ICEJ) will sponsor two projects in San Diego: \n\nFri. Oct. 15-Sun. Oct. 17–faith communities will call for climate justice using the riches of their own traditions and resources (here) provided by GreenFaith and ICEJ\nMon. Oct. 18  1:00 – 2:15 PM–faith communities and their supporters will come together for the Faiths 4 Climate Justice Rally at the County Administration Building on the west side at the fountain\, 1600 Pacific Highway\, to present 5 key demands on climate and equity.  We ask that these demands be prioritized in the County’s Regional Decarbonization Framework.  Our Rally will also feature music\, street theatre\, reflections and prayers from a diversity of faith traditions.  Co-sponsors include SanDiego350 and the CA Poor People’s Campaign.\n\nDemands: \n\nInvest in green infrastructure for environmentally impacted communities\nTransition rapidly to 100% renewable energy\nFocus on the creation of local green jobs for underserved communities and a just transition for fossil fuel workers\nPrioritize marginalized communities when designing sustainable transit solutions\nReach zero carbon for SD County by 2030\n\nPlease join us to witness our care for the earth and for the poor.  We will make our voices heard! For more information\, contact us here. Check out and share our flyer! \nMore advocacy resources are available here. \nIf you attend the event\, please upload any photos or videos you would like to share on this Google Drive! \n

SUMMARY:Sept 24th: Global Day of Climate Action
DESCRIPTION:The Global Day of Climate Action is an annual direct action rally held in September\, established by Fridays for Future. This day calls upon the world leaders to make concrete commitments to fight the climate crisis. This year\, it precedes the 26th UN Climate Change Conference of Parties (COP26) in Glasgow. \nStudents around the County and world are holding a Global Climate Strike to demand a bold response to the climate crisis. In San Diego\, a centralized strike will take place Friday afternoon in San Diego. We will gather at the County Administration Building at 1pm until 1:30pm\, when we will march to City Hall to meet students from San Diego High School. There\, we will rally and listen to speakers and enjoy music! \nTo register for updates\, click here. \nThe 3 main asks at the local\, state\, and national levels are: \nLocal: A Zero-Carbon regional plan by 2030 in San Diego City and County \nState: Stop issuing new oil drilling and fracking permits\, implement 2\,500ft setbacks between oil sites and communities\, and work to phase out existing oil. \nNational: San Diego and CA Representatives cosponsor the THRIVE agenda and work to address environmental justice issues through an equitable plan in the context of the Reconciliation Bill.
