SUMMARY:February Hands in Soil: Surfrider Beach Clean-up
DESCRIPTION:Last fall ICEJ started an initiative we’re calling Hands in the Soil that pairs volunteers with monthly opportunities at various local not-for-profits providing an opportunity to get a little dirty to make our community cleaner (and more earth friendly). Saturday\, February 15 from 9-11 AM we join Surfrider for a beach clean-up at two locations: Moonlight Beach\, Encinitas and Imperial Beach – so take your pick. Someone from Surfrider will talk briefly about what to pick up\, supply you with gloves\, bags\, and pickers\, and set you free to clean the beach. Just look for the table with the big Surfrider sign on the beach and someone from ICEJ (we’ll have signs) will be there to meet you also. If you can’t stay for the whole time\, that’s never a problem either. \n\n\n\nFor more information from Surfrider go here. To contact a representative from ICEJ\, reach out to Susan Cass at Susanpanniercass@gmail.com

SUMMARY:STOP Trump's Attacks on the EPA and our Climate
DESCRIPTION:Photo courtesy of SanDiego350 \n\n\n\nWe cannot stand by while the Trump administration denies climate change in the face of the heartbreaking fires in LA\, expands fossil fuel drilling\, illegally cuts funds for renewable energy and environmental justice\, places fossil fuel executives in charge of our environment\, and paints a target on the backs of the EPA workers who are working for our health and our environment every day. \n\n\n\nStarting at the Federal Courthouse\, we’ll march to the Federal Building in downtown San Diego. We’ll rally in support of San Diego’s EPA workers who are under attack\, call out Trump’s devastating actions for our climate and our future\, and demand that San Diego and California step up climate action – including passing the state bill to make California’s largest fossil fuel polluters pay to mitigate\, remedy\, and prevent climate change costs and harms.  \n\n\n\nThis event will feature a march\, great speakers\, colorful signs and banners\, and actions to take at the event.  \n\n\n\nJoin us as we fight for our future\, for EPA workers\, and for the rule of law! \n\n\n\nSpeakers include: Prof. Jeff Severinghaus\, Scripps Institute of Oceanography climate scientist; David Fege\, retired EPA staff who opened the San Diego EPA office in 1994; Jack Shu\, former La Mesa Councilmember; Phil Petrie\, Tyler Andre\, Shayne Petkiewicz and Adeline Deig with SanDiego350; Ali Mariko Dressel\, San Diego Green New Deal Alliance; and\, Yusef Miller\, ICEJ. \n\n\n\nWe’ll have plenty of signs\, and of course your own signs are very welcome! \n\n\n\nCo-sponsored by SanDiego350

SUMMARY:Unite for Climate March - ICEJ Contingent Honors Climate Dead
DESCRIPTION:As you probably know by now\, SanDiego350 and almost 50 other orgs including ICEJ are planning a Unite for Climate March to be held on Saturday\, May 3rd at 11 AM at Waterfront Park. Thousands of San Diegans will stand up for climate action\, climate justice\, and a healthy sustainable future for everyone – and fight against destructive policies that put profits over people. The urgency of climate action has never been more pressing so I hope that you can attend the March and help us get the word out to your faith community (here is a toolkit with blurbs\, flyers\, etc. Many thanks in advance for your help!!). \n\n\n\nICEJ will have a special contingent in the March honoring and mourning our climate dead. In the past fifty years approximately two million peoplehave died from climate related events and without significant reductions in carbon emissions many\, many more will die in the years to come. The Trump Administration is moving in the wrong direction by embracing fossil fuels and gutting climate science. So we will process with a cardboard coffin and climate death signs (see photo above)\, dressed in black and mostly silent.  We would love to have you and members of your community join us. We meet at the southwest corner of Waterfront Park (at the intersection of N. Harbor Drive and W. Ash St.) between 10:30 and 10:45 AM. Please reach out to your faith community and recruit members for this – and we welcome groups with their own faith community banner!   \n\n\n\nFor more information or if you have questions\, contact Phil Petrie at phil@icejsd.org.

SUMMARY:No Kings March and Nation-wide Day of Defiance - SD350 Contingent
DESCRIPTION:Image credit: SanDiego350 \n\n\n\nThere will be a contingent of people from SD350 marching in the No Kings March: \n\n\n\n“Be part of San Diego’s NO KINGS March\, joining this nationwide day of action to defend our freedoms.  \n\n\n\nDonald Trump and Elon Musk think this country belongs to them. They’re taking everything they can get their hands on\, and daring the world to stop them. They want to strip America for parts\, shuttering Social Security offices\, firing essential workers\, gutting Medicaid\, and eliminating climate programs and environmental and civil rights protections – all to bankroll their billionaire tax scam. On Saturday\, June 14th\, we’re continuing the work and taking to the streets NATIONWIDE to fight back with a clear message: No Kings!  \n\n\n\nIf you are joining us\, please register here so we know how many climate-themed signs to bring! Together we can make a difference! \n\n\n\nSanDiego350 attendees will gather at the corner of N. Harbor and Ash St at 9:30 AM and join the march as a group. See the map below for details and look for the SanDiego350 banner. \n\n\n\nRegister for updates! “ \n\n\n\n\nREGISTER HERE

SUMMARY:Urban Greening Community Open House
DESCRIPTION:Last October. ICEJ was part of a coalition of organizations that held an Eco Fair and Town Hall in SE San Diego and the issue that our attendees chose to work further on was environmental racism and greening communities of concern.  Now the Urban Collaborative Project (UCP) and partners (see full list below) are putting on a series of events to develop an Urban Greening Plan (UGP).  The upcoming Urban Greening Community Open House will distribute up to three trees to individual residents of SE San Diego AND help identify new green spaces and co-design community-led maintenance plans.  The Open House will be held on Sat. June 14  10 AM-2 PM at Groundwork SD Earth Lab– Millennial Tech Middle School (1110 Carolina Ln\, San Diego\, CA 92102).  Note: both UCP and Groundwork San Diego Chollas Creek were our partners for the Eco Fair.  More on the Plan is below. The Urban Greening Plan will identify and map priority areas for tree planting\, green spaces\, and community-led maintenance to provide clean air\, environmental cooling\, and walkable neighborhoods. This plan is shaped by community voices and prioritizes equity\, inclusion\, and cultural diversity.  The UGP Taskforce includes the Urban Collaborative Project (UCP)\, San Diego Urban Sustainability Coalition (another Eco Fair partner)\, Mundo Gardens\, Urban Corps\, and Tree San Diego.

SUMMARY:Interfaith Summer Beach Drum Circle
DESCRIPTION:The summer solstice is a time to celebrate nature’s abundance\, the power of the sun\, and the cyclical nature that sustains all life on Earth. Different cultures and people of various faiths worldwide have been celebrating this celestial event for millennia.  The word “solstice” comes from the Latin words “sun” and “to stand still.”  At solstice\, we pause for reflection\, gratitude\, and a deeper connection to nature.  Our drumming builds community and echoes the rhythms of the waves–everything is connected! \n\n\n\nJoin us on Friday\, June 20 at 6:30 PM at Moonlight Beach in Encinitas for this magical experience on the longest day of the year.  On the beach\, just walk south of the lifeguard station. There is a large FREE parking lot and facilities.  Bring your drum\, your spirit\, and something to sit on. All levels welcome — let’s welcome the summer sun together!  Free will offerings accepted to benefit the work of ICEJ  – the Interfaith Coalition for Earth Justice.                 Questions?  Contact Susan Cass at susanpanniercass@gmail.com \n\n\n\n\nRSVP HERE
