SUMMARY:Bearing Witness Where a Border Runs Through
DESCRIPTION:On Saturday\, April 26 we will mindfully walk in the Tijuana River Estuary on the North McCoy Trail. There are 2 walking distances for people to choose from: \n\n\n\nFor those who enjoy a moderately-paced walk we will gather at 9 AM at the Visitor Center at 301 Caspian Way in Imperial Beach\, then head to the River Mouth trail for 1/2 hour out and 1/2 hour back. We’ll  join the rest of the group by 10 AM. \n\n\n\nFor those who prefer a short\, easy trail we will meet at 10 AM at the Visitor Center and end with a blessing ceremony of the river and its estuary by 11 AM. \n\n\n\nThis will be a time of rising tidal waters midst spring blooms and resident as well as migrating wildlife. We will call forth blessings for peace and health for all inhabitants\, both human and wild\, in the embrace of the Tijuana River estuary.  The Visitor Center has displays and information including maps. The two trails are dog friendly. \n\n\n\nFor more information contact: Diana Hartel: Diana.hartel@gmail.com / 541-301-8276

SUMMARY:Unite for Climate March - ICEJ Contingent Honors Climate Dead
DESCRIPTION:As you probably know by now\, SanDiego350 and almost 50 other orgs including ICEJ are planning a Unite for Climate March to be held on Saturday\, May 3rd at 11 AM at Waterfront Park. Thousands of San Diegans will stand up for climate action\, climate justice\, and a healthy sustainable future for everyone – and fight against destructive policies that put profits over people. The urgency of climate action has never been more pressing so I hope that you can attend the March and help us get the word out to your faith community (here is a toolkit with blurbs\, flyers\, etc. Many thanks in advance for your help!!). \n\n\n\nICEJ will have a special contingent in the March honoring and mourning our climate dead. In the past fifty years approximately two million peoplehave died from climate related events and without significant reductions in carbon emissions many\, many more will die in the years to come. The Trump Administration is moving in the wrong direction by embracing fossil fuels and gutting climate science. So we will process with a cardboard coffin and climate death signs (see photo above)\, dressed in black and mostly silent.  We would love to have you and members of your community join us. We meet at the southwest corner of Waterfront Park (at the intersection of N. Harbor Drive and W. Ash St.) between 10:30 and 10:45 AM. Please reach out to your faith community and recruit members for this – and we welcome groups with their own faith community banner!   \n\n\n\nFor more information or if you have questions\, contact Phil Petrie at phil@icejsd.org.

SUMMARY:No Kings March and Nation-wide Day of Defiance - SD350 Contingent
DESCRIPTION:Image credit: SanDiego350 \n\n\n\nThere will be a contingent of people from SD350 marching in the No Kings March: \n\n\n\n“Be part of San Diego’s NO KINGS March\, joining this nationwide day of action to defend our freedoms.  \n\n\n\nDonald Trump and Elon Musk think this country belongs to them. They’re taking everything they can get their hands on\, and daring the world to stop them. They want to strip America for parts\, shuttering Social Security offices\, firing essential workers\, gutting Medicaid\, and eliminating climate programs and environmental and civil rights protections – all to bankroll their billionaire tax scam. On Saturday\, June 14th\, we’re continuing the work and taking to the streets NATIONWIDE to fight back with a clear message: No Kings!  \n\n\n\nIf you are joining us\, please register here so we know how many climate-themed signs to bring! Together we can make a difference! \n\n\n\nSanDiego350 attendees will gather at the corner of N. Harbor and Ash St at 9:30 AM and join the march as a group. See the map below for details and look for the SanDiego350 banner. \n\n\n\nRegister for updates! “ \n\n\n\n\nREGISTER HERE

SUMMARY:Urban Greening Community Open House
DESCRIPTION:Last October. ICEJ was part of a coalition of organizations that held an Eco Fair and Town Hall in SE San Diego and the issue that our attendees chose to work further on was environmental racism and greening communities of concern.  Now the Urban Collaborative Project (UCP) and partners (see full list below) are putting on a series of events to develop an Urban Greening Plan (UGP).  The upcoming Urban Greening Community Open House will distribute up to three trees to individual residents of SE San Diego AND help identify new green spaces and co-design community-led maintenance plans.  The Open House will be held on Sat. June 14  10 AM-2 PM at Groundwork SD Earth Lab– Millennial Tech Middle School (1110 Carolina Ln\, San Diego\, CA 92102).  Note: both UCP and Groundwork San Diego Chollas Creek were our partners for the Eco Fair.  More on the Plan is below. The Urban Greening Plan will identify and map priority areas for tree planting\, green spaces\, and community-led maintenance to provide clean air\, environmental cooling\, and walkable neighborhoods. This plan is shaped by community voices and prioritizes equity\, inclusion\, and cultural diversity.  The UGP Taskforce includes the Urban Collaborative Project (UCP)\, San Diego Urban Sustainability Coalition (another Eco Fair partner)\, Mundo Gardens\, Urban Corps\, and Tree San Diego.

SUMMARY:Interfaith Summer Beach Drum Circle
DESCRIPTION:The summer solstice is a time to celebrate nature’s abundance\, the power of the sun\, and the cyclical nature that sustains all life on Earth. Different cultures and people of various faiths worldwide have been celebrating this celestial event for millennia.  The word “solstice” comes from the Latin words “sun” and “to stand still.”  At solstice\, we pause for reflection\, gratitude\, and a deeper connection to nature.  Our drumming builds community and echoes the rhythms of the waves–everything is connected! \n\n\n\nJoin us on Friday\, June 20 at 6:30 PM at Moonlight Beach in Encinitas for this magical experience on the longest day of the year.  On the beach\, just walk south of the lifeguard station. There is a large FREE parking lot and facilities.  Bring your drum\, your spirit\, and something to sit on. All levels welcome — let’s welcome the summer sun together!  Free will offerings accepted to benefit the work of ICEJ  – the Interfaith Coalition for Earth Justice.                 Questions?  Contact Susan Cass at susanpanniercass@gmail.com \n\n\n\n\nRSVP HERE

SUMMARY:Interfaith Vigil for Earth Justice - September 2025
DESCRIPTION:Interfaith Vigil for Earth Justice \n\n\n\nIn silence – We resist greed and indifference.  We stand with the suffering.  We pray for earth repair. \n\n\n\nAs members of various faiths\, we are called to stand together in silence for and solidarity with our Earth at this time of climate chaos and environmental devastation driven by human greed and indifference.  We call out and resist federal policies that have reversed the progress made in addressing climate disruption and the ruthless steps of the current administration to monetize Earth in our name.   \n\n\n\nJoin us at one of our monthly Interfaith Vigils for Earth Justice on the first Monday of each month (except in Sept. when we will meet on Sept. 8) 12-1 PM at the U.S. District Court building\, 385 W. Broadway.  Please wear black if you can–and if standing for 40 minutes will be difficult for you\, feel free to bring a folding stool.  This event is open to persons of faith and no faith–do join us!! \n\n\n\nWith the severe reduction in clean energy initiatives\, a rollback on many of the plans that would help meet California’s commitment to carbon neutrality by 2035\, and new proposals to increase oil and gas drilling that will harm wildlife and add to pollution of the air and water\, we are compelled to respond.  This vigil is one of the ways that our faith calls us to public witness. \n\n\n\nOur Vigil is sponsored by the Interfaith Coalition for Earth Justice.  For more information contact Phil Petrie at phil@icejsd.org.   \n\n\n\nSave the date! Our next vigils will be held every month at the same location (U.S. District Court building\, 385 W. Broadway): \n\n\n\n\nMonday\, August 4 at 12 – 1 PM  \n\n\n\nMonday\, Sept. 8  at 12 – 1 PM \n\n\n\nMonday\, Oct. 6 at 12 – 1 PM \n\n\n\nMonday\, Nov. 3 at 12 – 1 PM \n\n\n\nMonday\, Dec. 1 at 12 – 1 PM\n\n\n\n\n\nREGISTER TO RESIST

SUMMARY:SUN DAY in SAN DIEGO: Picnic for Our Solar Future
DESCRIPTION:As the sun sets on many opportunities for increasing our solar energy infrastructure response to the climate crisis\, people across the United States are launching a bold new chapter in the struggle to repair the Earth.   \n\n\n\nLeading up to these efforts\, on Saturday\, September 13 from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm the Interfaith Coalition for Earth Justice will celebrate a family-friendly Sun Day Picnic for our Solar Future with speeches\, games\, music and general merriment. Co-sponsors include GreenFaith\, a global interfaith organization to protect the planet and create a compassionate\, loving\, and just world; SanDiego350\, a volunteer-led non-profit working to prevent the worst impacts of climate change and climate injustice; and Third Act\, an elder-led movement for climate action and democracy protection. \n\n\n\nDespite climate denial\, corporate green\, and political inaction and interference with an expansion of renewable energy\, we will add our light to the constellation of courage across the country for climate justice. \n\n\n\nAll are welcome! \n\n\n\nBring your Brown Bag Brunch & Beverage to a joyous gathering in the park to celebrate the central importance of renewable energy to our planet’s future. SUMMARY:Interfaith Vigil for Earth Justice - January 2026
\n\n\n\nJoin us at one of our monthly Interfaith Vigils for Earth Justice on the first Monday of each month at 12-1 PM at the U.S. For more information contact Diane Lopez Hughes at dianelopezhughes@gmail.com  \n\n\n\nSave the date! Our next vigils will be held every month at the same location (U.S. District Court building\, 385 W. Broadway)
