SUMMARY:Interfaith Vigil for Earth Justice - September 2025
DESCRIPTION:Interfaith Vigil for Earth Justice \n\n\n\nIn silence – We resist greed and indifference.  We stand with the suffering.  We pray for earth repair. \n\n\n\nAs members of various faiths\, we are called to stand together in silence for and solidarity with our Earth at this time of climate chaos and environmental devastation driven by human greed and indifference.  We call out and resist federal policies that have reversed the progress made in addressing climate disruption and the ruthless steps of the current administration to monetize Earth in our name.   \n\n\n\nJoin us at one of our monthly Interfaith Vigils for Earth Justice on the first Monday of each month (except in Sept. when we will meet on Sept. 8) 12-1 PM at the U.S. District Court building\, 385 W. Broadway.  Please wear black if you can–and if standing for 40 minutes will be difficult for you\, feel free to bring a folding stool.  This event is open to persons of faith and no faith–do join us!! \n\n\n\nWith the severe reduction in clean energy initiatives\, a rollback on many of the plans that would help meet California’s commitment to carbon neutrality by 2035\, and new proposals to increase oil and gas drilling that will harm wildlife and add to pollution of the air and water\, we are compelled to respond.  This vigil is one of the ways that our faith calls us to public witness. \n\n\n\nOur Vigil is sponsored by the Interfaith Coalition for Earth Justice.  For more information contact Phil Petrie at phil@icejsd.org.   \n\n\n\nSave the date! Our next vigils will be held every month at the same location (U.S. District Court building\, 385 W. Broadway): \n\n\n\n\nMonday\, August 4 at 12 – 1 PM  \n\n\n\nMonday\, Sept. 8  at 12 – 1 PM \n\n\n\nMonday\, Oct. 6 at 12 – 1 PM \n\n\n\nMonday\, Nov. 3 at 12 – 1 PM \n\n\n\nMonday\, Dec. 1 at 12 – 1 PM\n\n\n\n\n\nREGISTER TO RESIST

SUMMARY:SUN DAY in SAN DIEGO: Picnic for Our Solar Future
DESCRIPTION:As the sun sets on many opportunities for increasing our solar energy infrastructure response to the climate crisis\, people across the United States are launching a bold new chapter in the struggle to repair the Earth.   \n\n\n\nLeading up to these efforts\, on Saturday\, September 13 from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm the Interfaith Coalition for Earth Justice will celebrate a family-friendly Sun Day Picnic for our Solar Future with speeches\, games\, music and general merriment. Co-sponsors include GreenFaith\, a global interfaith organization to protect the planet and create a compassionate\, loving\, and just world; SanDiego350\, a volunteer-led non-profit working to prevent the worst impacts of climate change and climate injustice; and Third Act\, an elder-led movement for climate action and democracy protection. \n\n\n\nDespite climate denial\, corporate green\, and political inaction and interference with an expansion of renewable energy\, we will add our light to the constellation of courage across the country for climate justice. \n\n\n\nAll are welcome! \n\n\n\nBring your Brown Bag Brunch & Beverage to a joyous gathering in the park to celebrate the central importance of renewable energy to our planet’s future. We’ll supply the vegan desserts\, music \, and dynamic speakers to talk about what we can do in California and especially in San Diego to make that future happen. \n\n\n\nPlease remember to bring a camping chair\, hat\, reusable water bottle\, and sunscreen. \n\n\n\nRegister for reminders and more detailed information!  \n\n\n\n\nREGISTER NOW\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\

SUMMARY:Wars Rage As the World Burns: The Ecological Impact of War and Militarism in San Diego
DESCRIPTION:Wars Rage As the World Burns: The Ecological Impact of War and Militarism in San Diego \n\n\n\nA Panel Discussion moderated by Michael Brackney (Peace Resource Center) featuring: \n\n\n\n\nYusef Miller (ICEJ) – A faith perspective on war and militarism\n\n\n\nScott Kelley (SDSU Professor) –The climate crisis background\n\n\n\nJim Rine (Veterans For Peace) – Militarism and climate change\n\n\n\nGary Butterfield (Veterans For Peace) – Militarism in San Diego\n\n\n\n\nFriday\, Sept. 26 from 7-9 PM in the Gathering Place of the Church of the Brethren3850 Westgate Place\, San Diego 92105 \n\n\n\nThe military industrial complex is an existential threat to all life on planet earth. San Diego County is home to the highest concentration of active duty military service members in the world and has a robust defense industry component in its regional economy.   \n\n\n\nYet the US military is the  single largest institutional consumer of fossil fuels and emitter of greenhouse gasses in the world.  With the military budget exceeding $1 trillion\, at the expense of all other social spending\, and the effects of the climate crisis manifesting daily\, as well as an ongoing international arms race\, isn’t it time to carefully examine the military’s contribution to the climate crisis? \n\n\n\nFor more info contact: Gary Butterfield\,  garyvfp@gmail.com \n\n\n\n\nREGISTER HERE
