July 1 - 7th is National Clean Beaches week, and w July 1 - 7th is National Clean Beaches week, and with San Diego having more than 31 beaches to choose from, this is an issue that is very close to home.
The International Union for the Conservation of Nature reported in 2023 that "Over 400 million tons of plastic are produced worldwide every year. Plastic pollution is a complex issue, and affects all land, freshwater, and marine ecosystems. It threatens human and ecosystem health, negatively impacts important economic activities, and contributes to climate change. By 2015, 60% of all plastic ever produced had turned into waste. And yearly, up to 14 million tonnes of plastic debris goes into the global ocean."

Celebrate National Beach Clean Up Week is by getting involved and contributing to organizations that work to protects and restore the waters and beaches year round like Surf Rider Foundation San Diego @surfridersandiego and San Dieog Coast Keeper @sd_coastkeeper through their beach cleanups and many other ways they educate and advocate for clean waters.

Thank you to all those who came out in support of Thank you to all those who came out in support of Earth, Air, Fire & Water: An interfaith Service on Climate Change at Balboa Park on 4/29/23. We had 70 people from kids to seniors celebrating how diverse faith traditions honor the elements. We are so grateful to all those who volunteered this time to make this happen and the faith leaders who lead the prayers and activities. There were light moments of music and fun as wells as more serious moments of holding compassion for the damage and hurts of our planet and it’s inhabitants. We look forward to celebrating again next year and hope to see you there.

Fire - the element of fire represents energy and p Fire - the element of fire represents energy and passion. We need fire to have the drive and motivation to do whatever we need to accomplish in our life. On a practical level from the heat of the sun, and can provide solar energy to the food we cook and the cars we drive, without fire we wouldn’t go anywhere or do much of anything. How can you cultivate more fire in your life? When fire is out of control though is can burn things down which is why as part of the five elements it is balanced.
We will express our gratitude and respect for sacred fire at the interfaith service on the climate crisis tonight in Balboa Park, San Diego! 4.29.23

Air - Hold your breath for 30-60 seconds…. Breat Air - Hold your breath for 30-60 seconds….
Breath quickly becomes the most important thing. The breath of Life. The wind, a baby’s first breath, the last breath a person takes, the wind that carries seeds and births new plants, the production of energy through windmills, there are so many different ways that air touches and benefits our lives. However it is being polluted by so many things and there are so many consequences such as children who get asthma by living in communities filled with toxic air from that pollution. . Many culture and spiritualities have deep meaning and references to the sacred element of air. We celebrate this as one of the four elements at the interfaith service on the climate crisis in San Diego on 4.29.23
Join us to honor all the elements and Mother Nature. Learn more and register at www.icejsd.org

Earth - one of the five elements in many ancient a Earth - one of the five elements in many ancient and spiritual traditions. Earth represents groundedness and the physical matter of which what everything is made. The earth provides all the resources that we use to live - it grows the food we eat, and provides a home to all living beings - humans, animals, plant life. We plant a seed and it’s blueprint allows it to grow into what it uniquely is meant to be. The nutrients of earth and what we absorb is what our bodies are made of.
