Ashes to Action: Honoring Our Climate Dead, Protes Ashes to Action: Honoring Our Climate Dead, Protesting Fossil Fuel Banks

In the past fifty years approximately two million people have died from climate change related events including nine in the recent floods in SoCal. From 2016-2022 four big US banks–Bank of America, Chase, Citibank, and Wells Fargo–have poured over one trillion dollars into the fossil fuel industry which drives climate change. THIS MUST STOP!! To protest this blood money and honor those who have died a coalition of environmental groups is holding a series of memorial services/protests in different locations around San Diego.

Too Many People Have Already Died from Climate Cha Too Many People Have Already Died from Climate Change While the Banks Which Fund It Rack Up Further Profits. THIS MUST STOP!!!

On Monday, Nov. 13, members of the Interfaith Coalition for Earth Justice and other orgs held a funeral procession in downtown San Diego for our climate dead. We stopped at each of the four big fossil fuel funding banks–Bank of America, Chase, Citibank, and Wells Fargo–to call them out. Members of the Indigenous, Jewish, Buddhist, Muslim and Christian faiths offered prayers and rituals from their traditions. People of faith say no to fossil fuel investment–it’s against our religions!!

July 1 - 7th is National Clean Beaches week, and w July 1 - 7th is National Clean Beaches week, and with San Diego having more than 31 beaches to choose from, this is an issue that is very close to home.
The International Union for the Conservation of Nature reported in 2023 that "Over 400 million tons of plastic are produced worldwide every year. Plastic pollution is a complex issue, and affects all land, freshwater, and marine ecosystems. It threatens human and ecosystem health, negatively impacts important economic activities, and contributes to climate change. By 2015, 60% of all plastic ever produced had turned into waste. And yearly, up to 14 million tonnes of plastic debris goes into the global ocean."

Celebrate National Beach Clean Up Week is by getting involved and contributing to organizations that work to protects and restore the waters and beaches year round like Surf Rider Foundation San Diego @surfridersandiego and San Dieog Coast Keeper @sd_coastkeeper through their beach cleanups and many other ways they educate and advocate for clean waters.
