Hands in the Soil is a community-based program that connects people through meaningful, hands-on service to create a healthier planet and a more just food system. Through Hands in the Soil, ICEJ has partnered with three inspiring local organizations — Project New Village, Farm Lab, and Surfrider Foundation — to offer monthly volunteer opportunities on the third Saturday of each month, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Together, we aim to cultivate a cleaner, healthier, and more equitable San Diego. Project New Village and Farm Lab welcome volunteers ages 14 and up. Surfrider events are open to all ages (with parental supervision for minors).

Through this program, volunteers come together to:

  • Support local organizations advancing food justice,
  • Help provide healthy, organic foods to students and low-income neighbors, and
  • Protect our beaches and marine environments through cleanup and conservation efforts.
